The Catamount Outdoor Family Center, in Williston, Vermont, is a 501(c) non-profit that’s all about giving people of all ages and abilities the chance to get outside and have a blast. Since its inception in 1978, this 500-acre land has been a go-to spot for outdoor enthusiasts, offering everything from fat tire biking to cross-country skiing, and even summer camps for kids to learn new skills. Under the leadership of Executive Director John Atkinson, Catamount is constantly evolving to serve the community and make the outdoors accessible to everyone, no matter their skill level.

• 25 miles of trails for fat tire biking, skiing, snowshoeing in winter; hiking, mountain biking, and running when it warms up.

 

Educational Programs:

• Summer Camps:

  • Mountain Biking & Nature Exploration Camp (ages 6-7): Kids get to bike and explore nature in a fun, safe environment.

  • Mountain Bike Camp (ages 8-14): A camp all about leveling up biking skills and building confidence.

  • Explorers Camp (ages 8-14): Nature, survival skills, and more biking.

• SnowSchool: A K-12 curriculum that teaches kids about snowpack, water systems, and winter ecosystems.

• Winter Wanders Camp: A February break camp with snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, and a crash course in winter ecology.

 

Competitive Events:

• Weekly Race Series: Mountain biking and trail running races for adults and kids.

• Cyclocross Race: a cross between road cycling, mountain biking and steeplechase.

• Dual Slalom Series: Head-to-head racing on a slalom course.
